Product Description The movie poster for A Nightmare on Elm Street initially seemed to be that artistâs rendering of an overhead perspective facing downward on a frightened and wide-eyed Nancy. Sheâs snuggling the sheets up to her chest and above her thereâs an almost mechanical-looking version of Freddyâs hand. There was the narrower and shorter VHS-style version where there was a slash of black underneath almost directly under Nancyâs chin in which the movie title was shown, but the completed illustration, like the one used on the soundtrack cover, showed a larger shot of Nancy in bed and even a kind of ghoulish disembodied face superimposed above the outreaching razor blades. Later, once the sequels were released, and Freddy had become more of a Horror icon, they went back and gave all the covers a more formulaic look, rectangular illustrations surrounded by ragged blood-red borders. At that point, the cover of A Nightmare on Elm Street was redone as a close-up of a more sardonic and less sinister Freddy image with his glove raised, and Nancy positioned behind him. There arenât any pictures yet, but presumably the original cover, the better choice, would be the one used, which would make for an extremely interesting sculpted effect.
