Requires 6 AA batteries (not included). Owner Reviews, Ratings, Comments and Criticism Durability: Fun: Educational: The XPV mini is made of styrofoam and plastic - ultra light weight. This makes it very vulnerable to breezes. You must fly outdoors however - because it's very fast and careens wildly. You must launch by hand - and then switch to the controller. Given the rapid speed of flight it's tough to recover. Over steer and it comes down to the turf, or rockets straight up and out of control very rapidly. On the upside, it hasn't broken yet (and it's tanked into the turf a bunch of times). It charges quickly too (10-20 minutes) via a wire in the hand control unit. I suspect it's just a steep learning curve and someday soon we'll be getting flights longer than the current 5-15 second flights we get now. I'd bet we'll be getting a minute or two pretty soon. I sure hope so because while the sudden lurching wild flights we get now are kind of exciting - they're also a bit disappointing. I want to be clear - the short flight times we're getting are not because the motor or battery gives out - the plane is physically capable of flying for 5 minutes or so - it's that we cannot fly that long without losing control of the craft. This might be learning curve for flying it or how to trim it for stable flight. The weather has been bad this winter and we haven't had many opportunities to fly.
